Get Council permission before installing your carport
There is a story in the media about a man who is up to lose $50,000 because he installed a carport on the Sunshine Coast without the proper permissions - its is so important to get Council permission before installing your carport.
How do you lose $50,000 on a carport?
Don't ever pay $50,000 for a standard Skillion Carport
Maybe the biggest lesson in this story is actually to shop around, or even better, just come to Car Covers and Shelter for your carport - because there is no way in the world you could lose $50,000 by installing one of our carports and taking it down again!
Below is Nathan Slonim (pictured), 41, who has been told to tear down his carport at the front of his home in Mooloolaba on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Please note this is a standard Skillion Carport. You can see it is a good quality, well-built skillion, probably no more than 6m x 5m; you can click here to see the price of our heavy duty Allcover Skillion Carport 5m x 6m, one of the very best on the Australian market.
The cost of our double skillion carport delivered is $4,499 (you can get a lot cheaper by buying our Budget Range). If we assume that the owner here, Mr Slonim, got a real way-overpriced cowboy to install the kit then we could add a massive $5000 (an average price for this work is probably closer to $1500). It looks like his drive way has been there for a long time but maybe he had to pay another $10,000 for a new driveway. I've now got tyhe installed price up to $20,000; does that mean it is costing $30,000 to remove?
Look, to get Council permission before installing your carport is essential for most town or city dwellers and there is an important lesson to be learned here - but a $50,000 lesson for such a simple job seems a bit out! Either that or our huge range of carports are just selling too cheaply!
I should point out that the newspaper I found this story has been in trouble a few times for exaggerations and telling some porky-pies (or is it just "fake news" these days?). For those interested in reading the full story from the Daily Mail, read below -
Father locked in a bitter war with council over his $50,000 carport fears he will have to concrete the ENTIRE front yard of his leafy suburban home
Just click anywhere on the title above and it will take you there.
If anyone knows Mr Slonim and he is still interested in a carport, tell him about Car Covers and Shelter. I'm sure we could save him some money and make sure to get Council permission before installing your carport.
