Cover For Cars - TOP-SELLING CAR MODELS OF 2022 show that in December 2022 Tesla's Model 3 sedan outsold Toyota's Corolla as it cracked the top five list of new cars for the month and became the best-selling medium size sedan in Australia.

Overall in the full year a similar picture emerged with the Aussie love of the UTE still showing strong.

Cover for Cars – Utes and SUV are the winners!

SUVs and light commercial vehicles accounted for over three-quarters of all sales and we find that eight of the top 10 vehicles are Utes or SUV’s.

There are four Utes are in the top 10. The big family SUVs, Toyota Prado and LandCruiser are also on the list with a newcomer in the Chinese made MG ZS.

The days of the medium to large size sedans like the Fords and Holdens seem to be gone for ever. The only sedans to make the top 10 over the last year are The Corolla and the Hyundai i30.

How long will we have large petrol/diesel vehicles?

The other up and coming problem to Ute and SUV drivers is a possible ban on petrol and diesel vehicles, expected in about 10 years.

The world is being pushed towards carbon neutral in the next 25-30 years.  The result is various people looking for a ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles in the next 10 years or so which could see the end of some of our most popular vehicles.

Australia's new car industry has bounced back strongly from a slow start to 2022 The other huge challenge to Ute and SUV lovers is that looming ban on petrol and diesel vehicles, expected around 2035.

The world's push towards being carbon neutral by 2050 has seen policymakers, research institutes and even insurance companies calling for new petrol and diesel vehicles to be banned before 2035 could see the end of the vehicles altogether.

The sales results also show that the new car industry in Australia has bounced back strongly from the beginning of 2022.

Since August, new car sales have been up more than 15 per cent compared to the same period in 2021.
